CHUVA Campaign

Total lightning map with intra-/intercloud- and ground-strokes near São Paulo, Brazil, the 14th of December 2012
The height distribution of the intra-/intercloud-lightning-strokes shows a maximum around 9km, typical for the higher troposphere in (sub)troptical regions.

The German Aerospace Centre (DLR) utilises a LINET measuring network, consisting of 7 stations, during the CHUVA campaign (Cloud processes of tHe main precipitation systems in Brazil: A contribUtion to cloud resolVing modeling and the the GPM (GlobAl Precipitation Measurement)) for the precise localization of intra-/intercloud and cloud-to-ground lightning in the area of São Paulo, Brasil.

Due to the precise localization of the LINET measurement network, an important contribution for the research of the electrification of thunderstorms can be achieved.

After the fast and easy set-up of the field processors the processing of lightning events has been started.
