LINET Spot – Lightning Damage Query

With the web-based LINET spot application, you can easily investigate lightning strokes at a particular location at a particular time in the past. Lighting-induced damage and overvoltage can be reliably verified and contradicted if applicable. The LINET data report is considered an expert opinion.

The most important advantages of LINET spot

  • Web application

  • Translating postal address into geocoordinates

  • Single-day and multiple-day queries

  • Detailed final report with calendar display sand map-shot

  • Report (PDF)

Who benefits from LINET spot?

  • Insurance companies

Insurers place their trust in LINET spot to verify direct lightning strokes or lightning-induced overvoltage. Entering the postal address instead of geocoordinates enables a faster and flawless workflow. The final report serves as the basis for an expert opinion.

  • Authorized technical experts, energy suppliers and operators of weather sensitive facilities

Authorized technical experts, energy suppliers and operators of weather sensitive facilities verify claims that may have been lightning induced with LINET spot.

LINET spot in detail

LINET spot was originally developed for insurance companies resulting in high requirements regarding data security, processing speed and process optimization.

  • Easy to enter data

The user enters address and data in a web form that we are delighted to individually tailor to your company’s requirements. If geocoding is available for the respective area, e.g. Germany, then the street address is automatically converted into geocoordinates. Alternatively, you may of course enter the geoccordinates at all times.

  • Valuable information

The high location accuracy and efficiency of LINET spot guarantees a spot-on verification of lighting strokes. Even taking the inaccuracy of geocoding into consideration , strokes are located with a statistical accuracy of better than 75 meters (statistical data for Germany). Consequently, the type of lighting stroke, direct or indirect overvoltage may be determined.

  • Fast results

The lightning query may be carried out for a single as well as for a period of several days.

The single-day query determines the storm situation on the day of the query, the previous and the following day. A timeline illustrates the storm situation from o to 24 hrs for each single day. Color coding helps differentiate between overall storm activity, lightning-induced overvoltage and direct lightning strokes help determine when the damage occurred. For the day of the inquiry you will receive detailed information on the risk of damage for the location concerned (light/severe storm, little/medium/high likelihood of overvoltage or direct lightning stroke).

The multi-day query shows the weather situation as well as the damage risk as a table for each day of the query. The point in time when the damage occurred may be narrowed down to one or several days. The user receives detailed information via a single-day query for the most plausible date.

  • Detailed report

The lightning query results are displayed on the screen. The area map shows the queried location and the nearest lightning strokes. The table lists the lightning strokes with detailed information on position, amperage and distance from the queried location. The report may be printed or saved as a pdf. All lightning queries are filed in a lightning query archive and always at the user’s disposal.
